Bolan & Ravi To Be Discontinued By Pak Suzuki After 40 years

After nearly 40 years, Suzuki plans to discontinue the Suzuki Bolan mini van and Ravi pickup and replace them with the 660cc Suzuki Avery by 2023.

This news has been confirmed by reliable sources in the market.

Bolan was launched as 'High Roof' in 1982 but was later renamed 'Bolan' in 1991 when local assembly began at the Bin Qassim plant in Karachi. It has been one of the most popular products in Pakistan ever since.

Auto manufacturers need to notify the Pakistan Stock Exchange if they intend to shut down, but Suzuki has denied such developments. In contrast, a Suzuki dealership official said, "Yes, we have been told that the new sixth generation Mini Wayne Avery will be launched next year and Bolan will be discontinued."

Reports also say that Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) has instructed auto parts manufacturers and suppliers to manufacture and purchase spare parts that are compatible with every Suzuki mini van, indicating that Launch possible.

In a related development, the Lahore High Court in February directed the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to ensure the installation of airbags in motor vehicles as a mandatory precautionary measure. Automotive industry sources speculate that the decision may have forced PSMC to eventually retire Suzuki Bolan and Ravi.

EDB engineer Asim Ayaz confirmed that auto manufacturers and importers have been asked to comply with WP-29 (internationally accepted safety standards that require the installation of airbags) by the end of 2021. follow it. However, manufacturers can get an 18-month rebate. Ensure compliance with WP-29 clause by mid-2023.

Suzuki Mehran and Daihatsu Corps were shut down in Pakistan due to non-compliance with Euro-2, and Bolan and Ravi will probably suffer the same fate as there is no space for airbags in their interior.

The Suzuki Avery is already being imported and sold in the Pakistani market as a CBU, but PSMC plans to launch it as a locally assembled vehicle soon.
